Wig Fitting and Assistance
Free wigs are available at Hope, Hux, Providence, and Regional Cancer Centers for women on chemotherapy in the Valley. These shops are the courtesy of the Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivors, Inc. and the cancer centers. The Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivors, Inc. procures the wigs, buys the head forms for the display of the wigs, the lamps and the wig brushes. Our members keep the wigs brushed and attractive.
Since these are synthetic hair wigs, curling irons cannot be used. Do not open a hot oven door or put wood on a fireplace when wearing these wigs. Heat will cause the synthetic hair to frizz. Use a special wig brush to style the wig that doesn't cause static or frizz to the wig. The wigs can be cut and styled.
Wash the wigs in lukewarm water with baking soda or baby shampoo. Rinse in lukewarm water. Roll in a towel to get out the excess water. Take it out, and shake slightly. Place on a head form or small round bowl to dry. Use the special wig brush to style the hair.
Free turbans and other headwear are also available at the cancer centers.
